WebSite Process -Planning

The Planning Stages

I would like to say I took “pen and paper,” created a Gant chart, and fully integrated my thoughts with planning to align with technology to produce the quintessential website. That is not what I did. That’s never what I do. It would be easier and less time-consuming, but where is the adventure? I enjoy not knowing what I’m doing, going down that rabbit hole and seeing what is there. Trial and error are the way for me. I started with the goal of creating a website, but then I needed to determine the content. The following are the 4 goals I want to accomplish when developing the site. When considering these goals, some have been maturing for a while, while others are more current.

Four Website Goals

I had a professor, John Hardesty, who kept in touch with his graduates and would act as an intermediary for graduate job postings. His graduates would climb the corporate ladder and inevitably be looking for new, graduate-level employees. These senior-level managers would send John their job postings, and he would e-mail the job to his list of graduates. It was an excellent idea, but John needed much effort to maintain this system. I wanted to create a process where I could provide the same service with less effort. Welcome to my Job Blog.

The second goal is to be able to share Health and Safety information as I find it. This service would be beneficial for students, graduates and me personally.

The third goal is to chronicle my experiences with Athabasca University’s Masters of Education. An e-portfolio shared with the world. I have completed notes as I go in OneNote, but why wouldn’t I share my adventure with others. As an added incentive, most work will be completed if I choose the portfolio route.

The last goal is a bit more esoteric I have had musings about opening my own Health and Safety training company. For this, I need to have a launch point. If I learn how to maintain the website before this business is launched, it will be much more professional.

The next step is to select the tools to accomplish these goals.

Learning Through Action

I consider myself a student for life and make it a point to acquire new knowledge daily; yet, I have never been good at chronicling my experiences; the following is my attempt to do so. In the course I am taking at Athabasca University, MDDE 610, one of the tasks is to learn something new by using technology to help you learn on your own.

I have wanted to learn how to design a website for many years. This assignment has provided me with a fantastic chance to do so. As with most learning opportunities, this is only the beginning. I believe I have established a solid foundation.

As someone with a growth mindset, I welcome your feedback.

Come participate in my musings while I develop my website.

Let’s tap into our network.

I had a professor when I graduated who sent out an e-mail to those students who wanted to know about job opportunities.

Graduates would know of a job and send it to him, and then the current students would receive an e-mail blast with the job details.

I would like to recreate that here with a bit of a modern twist.

If you wish to be on this List Server, please signup today by entering your e-mail address at no cost.
